    <rant>
Here's a little rant before I start this post....

Seriously, what the fuck happened to anime music nowadays? Is this the so-called devolution?
I'm not saying that anime music past 2008 sucks, it's just that there are too many corny female songs and shit they don't pay attention to the overall balance of the music anymore, just haremhamrehamreaharemmoemeomoemeomoebllaaaaaaaaargh
and hundreds of punk rock bands were asked to do anime songs? Yeah right...

Don't get me wrong, I do like cute songs and punk rock, but this is getting out of control man, it's fucking overdose!

Fortunately we still have some golden bits in this era like Durarara!!'s "Complication", Chaos Head's "Super Special", Hyakka Rouran's "Last Vision for Last", and the ever famous "Don't Say Lazy".
Also, "Akazukin-chan Goyoujin" is such a fine example of a cute song done right, with a balance of music and vocals that is enjoyable.

but if you compare the songs of this era with the songs circa 2006 and before..... it's just meh.
Nowadays, you can point out good songs from them so-so songs. You would probably say something like, "I fucking love song X"
Back in the days, you can point each and every single song and says, "THIS SONG IS SO FUCKING SONG", or, "FUCK, I LOVE ANIME SONGS"
    </rant>

    5. Heart of Sword ~yoake mae~
    Rurouni Kenshin 3rd ED

Oldschool rules! This is 90 what? 96? 97? Old fucking school baybeh! I believe we don't need further description about this song.
I still remember when I was in primary 4, first listening to this song on TV. I was like, "omg omg wtf what song is this so keewwwllll!!!!!11111oenoeneo"

10 years later, this fucking epic song is still one of my top choices, especially for night time driving. The ambience is just perfecto bro.

    4. "AGONY"
    Kannazuki no Miko ED

So I first heard this song when I was in sec 2, that's 8th grade for you.
It was back when I was still an anime addict, who hungers for more *cough*fanservice*cough*, especially looking at the CD cover of two young girls hugging each other with little clothing covering their breasts.
So I bought the series, and finished the first episode when this song started to play.
"Daaaaaayyyuum", probably I said something along that line.
That melancholic melody, that epic synth works, and KOTOKO vocals..... This song is just perfect.

    3. "Akaneiro ga Moeru Toki" (When the sky burns red)
    GUNGRAVE ED
This is it, the pinnacle of Japanese Funk music. The cream of the crop, the magnum opus, the whatever it is you may call it.
The violin, epic bass, guitar, strings, horns, drums, they perfectly blend with each other, creating an epic harmony and oh so funky music!
This is a soothing song that is suitable in any situation: Morning, afternoon, evening, night, birthdays, funerals..... Okay, I want this to be played on my funeral, at least.
Be careful when listening, may cause severe addiction.

    2. "Loosey"

    Bakuretsu Tenshi (Burst Angel) OP

Loosey is one of those rare anime songs that has this strange power that makes you want to move your lazy ass and start dancing (or in my case, start exercising to lose weight in order to bust out some moves again).
Probably the funkiest Japanese rap song I've ever heard, and this is coming from someone who loves hip-hop.
Japanese rap music is generally categorized to traditional R&B influenced, Dragon Ash influenced, and feel good hip-hop songs. "Loosey", however, is a throughbred of RIP SLYME style funk and MOTHERFUCKING TAP DANCE.
Yes, THE STRIPES is a Japanese tap dance group. Hear that proc-tu-proc sounds? That's a fucking tap dance right there.

    Question:
So what makes this song so captivating?
Is it the samba percussion? Is it the exquisite sound of tap dance? Is it the funky guitar and horns? Or is it generally, just the totally catchy music that makes you want to dance?

    Answer:
Eh, the song is just that damn good.

    1. "Tank!"
    Cowboy Bebop OP
Okay, so it's technically not a song per-se, but it certainly is my favorite piece of anime music of all time, OF ALL TIME!
For those of you who have been living in a cave for this past decade, "Tank!" is the love child of maestro Kanno Yoko and the jazz band SEATBELTS.
It is highly regarded in Japan as one of the best anime songs in history, along with "Cruel Angel Thesis" and "Sousei no Aquarion".

Words aren't even enough to describe how fucking epic this song is, let's look at it like this.....

    SEX. This song is sex.

"I think it's time we blow this scene, get everybody and the stuff together. Okay, three, two, one, let's jam".....

    EJACULATION.

    Oh, what's that at 1:44?!

    EJACULATION.

    2:06 onwards...

    EJACULATION.

at the end of the song...

    EJACULATION.

and you just have multiple orgasms. Is it the best sex in your life? You bet your ass it is!

    Honorable mentions...

"FOREVER" - Elemental Gelade (this is how they should make anime songs nowadays! Epic music and heavy synth works, that is the trademark of the glorious circa 2005 anime songs!)

"Sousei no Aquarion" - Sousei no Aquarion (link above. This song is in my top 10! This is a top 5 list so yeah)

"XTC" - Witchblade (same reason as Aquarion, this should be rank 6 in my top 10)

"Pilgrim" - Detective Conan (That violin combo with guitar in the chorus is hot, bloody hot)

"Submarine Street" - Macross 7 (fuck Sheryl Nome and Ranka Lee, we have this epic and uplifting number by Nekki Basara. "One day, I would like for us to see it together, that rainbow reflected on your beautiful eyes, that I saw inside my dream")

"Hikari Sasuhou" - Murder Princess (one of the most epic BACK-ON anime songs)

"Makkana Chikai" (this is the kind of song that makes you go, "Fuck reason! I'm going to grab a pistol, rob a bank, drive-by some cops, and kill Lee Hsien Loong by pounding his head with a spoon!")

    "Lupin the 3rd"
    - Lupin the 3rd (there are too many versions out every year I can't decide which one!)

    "God Knows..."
    - Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu (I really like Endoh's version a lot more than Aya's so I can't count this one in)

"Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan" - Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan (I was tempted to post this as my number one.....)
